UPWELL MEDIA is a non-fiction production company led by persistent, tenacious, courageous rabble rousers, Erika Cohn, Sandra Alvarez, and  Elizabeth Ai, who are dedicated to the craft of character-centered storytelling. 

Working as Executive Producers, Co-EPs, Supervising Producers, Directors, and Producers, we have spearheaded successful features and documentary series for networks and streamers such as Netflix, Vice, CNN, PBS, and Showtime.

Our feature films have toured the globe, been watched by millions, and garnered Peabodys, Emmys, and DGA awards. 

When it comes to storytelling, we relish in exploring characters from misfits to mavericks who challenge perceptions, push boundaries, and dare to exhume the past. Our team has explored and uncovered stories all across the spectrum but some of our favorites have been in the world of sports, music, food, true crime, and tech.  

Think of us like story superheroes – we’re moving mountains and creating space for ethical collaborations with people and communities who want to share their deepest personal histories.  We’ve taken on powerful institutions; gained access to topics that were previously untouchable; and helped document stories at ground zero that effect change (yes, even legislation!) for those excluded and marginalized in history.
